Big Little Voice

I collaborated on a passion project for Autism Awareness Month with some very talented friends. We worked on it in our spare time for over a year and are excited to finally share it with the world! We've even turned it into a limited series of NFTs on OpenSea. Conceptualized by Mindy, the central figure represents her son, JJ. The shapes forming the figure symbolize our uniqueness and diversity. Autism has affected JJ’s voice in distinct and challenging ways.

JJ has limited language but when he communicates, it’s colorful, wonderful, and explosive. Whatever our voice, looks and sounds like, we need to celebrate it!
— Mindy Lee

I animated and art directed the concepts, which involved converting 2D illustrations by Mindy into fully realized 3D loopable and simulated animations by Ian and me. The final touch was adding sounds, combining JJ’s voice with Reed’s sound design expertise to bring the pieces to life.

Follow our journey as JJ, @happy_art_for_you, continues to learn and grow!
